Sack size reduced service (6)

This looks like BILLET for 'sack' with LET = 'service', but how is BIL 'size reduced' ? Grateful for help with this !

I like the wordplay for BULLET, but how does it = 'sack' ? Also agree with logophile, 'size reduced' could be BIL(LION). Any thoughts ?
Give someone an employee the bullet= to sack them
To sack someone you give them the bullet

Thanks guys - I think this one will hinge on the reference dictionary which is Chambers 2011. Neither bil = billion nor bullet = sack are in my old version, so I need to check them both in the latest edition - shall let you know the final verdict.
