thank you all for help. I have snowman, but it does not fit in with UNitE 16d.
For 23a I had AIRMAN but neither does that fit in with 16d.would be glad of any help

UNSAY for "take it back ".If that is Ok then everything fits in. Iwould be glad of another opinion.

Thank you all for your help. I have practically finished except for 31a for which I had JEST but 26d NOUVEAU .The U throws out the E of JEST .I will keep trying !!! A Happy New Year to all.
