Totally stuck on the last clue viz 40D (9) US Author not the first to entertain celebrity artist E?A?E?L?R - have tried all the sources I can think of including Google and am getting nowhere - anyone any ideas? assistance will be greatly appreciated

The only word I can think of to fit is enameller. Can't get it to fit with the clue unless you think an enameller is a kind of artist.

All I could find in us authors beginning with E is Englander,correct amount of letters but does not match!

I thought the author was Heller - 'not the first' makes it 'eller', celebrity is'name'. E name ller - an artist who uses enamels.
