belie
I thought bilge
reverse, eg & lib
bilge and moonshine both mean nonsense
for instance can be i.e as well
Question Author
I agree with Baldric as Bilge fits clue better. Otherwise where is rejected Liberal?
Question Author
However, might be tempted to drink Moonshine but NOT Bilge!
for instance = E.G., liberal = LIB
rejected i.e. reversed gives BIL GE

(and just to be pedantic, 'for instance' is not the same as i.e.)
Question Author
Thanks all for your input. Much appreciated. What does i.e. stand for bibblebub?
I thought it was for instance rather than for example = e.g.
id est = that is, in other words
so it's specific to what one is referring rather than a general example
Question Author
Thanks bibblebub.
