With seemingly no-one yet posting I thought I would have some fun as I have not started a thread before.
Some clues a lot trickier than recent weeks given the varying clue options etc., I'm only about half way through but think I have the game now but a long way to go before I can calculate a score .. time for bed.
This is tough isn't it? I think I might have to concede here. I've enjoyed the last couple of listeners, but I think this is back up to expected standards and beyond me. Is the obvious theme too obvious and therefore wrong?
I've got a full gris and all the ins/outs/misprints. Now I'm studying the 22 remaining answers looking for te 14 pairs. I fear the lack of Brewers is going to cause me difficulty two weeks in a row:-(
Success! Unlike last week's the online Brewer's I found (http://archive.org/details/brewersdictionar000544mbp) did have what was needed. Congratulations on a tough puzzle, Mohawk!
I have almost a full grid, but am seriously lacking in "spare" letters. An interesting mix of fun and frustration. Nice to see that my copy of Brewers is likely to justify its space again.
Filled the grid apart from three answers in the bottom right last night. Have one of those now and enough of the instructions to work out the game - enjoying it so far.
"A game unfamiliar to me" doesn't sound like cricket, does it? (all that comes to mind for 'innings') I have a full grid, apart from one letter which I am about to work on, but far too many clues where I haven't identified the missing/extra/misprint. At least others of you have found this hard. Fear this may be a give-up week for me.
A steady grid fill, but now scratching my head trying to work out the game. Think I need to revisit the wordplay on a number of clues, since currently not making much sense.
I didn't know the game either so looked it up online for the rules. Couldn't believe the first reference I checked - in urbandictionary - was this really a Listener? Anyway, wikipedia bailed me out.
All now resolved. I had indeed a number of justifiable wordplays which were clearly not those that were intended (including 1a and 6a) which caused much confusion. A very enjoyable challenge, with final PDM finally arriving once I understood how to enter the scores.
All done - I haven't been able to confirm all the pairs without access to Brewer's (note to self: spend Amazon vouchers) - but have worked out the 'score' and had a neat PDM with the alterations which is unambiguous enough to make me think I've got it right. A very cleverly constructed puzzle.
Yes back to it after a lie in and fun in the snow.
Game correct , Grid filled, Most pairs identified but absolute precision quite a few strokey beard moments away I feel.
Some of these clues are more cunning than a cunning fox with a degree in cunning from the university of cunning.
Two clues to go and one score, so nearly there. Had utterly forgotten this game, so a welcome reminder of fun many years ago!! Great crossword with bags of thematic material.
