29a Intelligent economist (6) - R - G - T Correct answer is BRIGHT. I've tried everywhere, but can't find an economist called Bright. Plenty of politicians, but that would seem to be a contradiction of terms. Anyone help.

I'm sure it's John Bright being referenced (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Bright), but you make a very good point about him being a politician rather than an economist.
