Lovely and straightforward puzzle. Glad that the highlighting is optional, although I'm sure that JEG will be generous on the interpretation of the shade. Thanks Augeas for bringing back some happy memories.

Yes, a nice gentle run out. Now I can concentrate on helping Andy Murray through his next challenge.
Definitely straightforward, perhaps too so, but with some nice flourishes. Not really sure why highlighting is optional (it's pretty clear which word and what colour to use, after all). Thanks to Augeas for a gentle stroll down memory lane. Now back to the tennis!!
I suspect that the consensus that will emerge will be 'Enjoyable, if undemanding'. Thanks to Augeas for evoking a pleasant memory.
I have some concerns about the six characters. There seems to be a few possibilities, not being an expert on the subject.
Yes, finished before Andy Murray. This was good fun, but not too taxing. I would suggest that in the light of the word 'characters', the achievement can only be one thing, dead-eye. Perhaps there are other possibilities, but I'm quite happy with my first thought on the matter.
Enjoyable, if undemanding (I'm always one to solidly back a consensus). Knowing nothing of the topic except what the Wiki tells me, I too can't say for sure what the 6 characters should be, but since I don't submit the puzzle I'm not going to worry too much about it.

Out next week, so see you all for 4250.
Fun, and reminded me of a childhood enthusiasm. Well, if I'm honest, enthusiasm that always reappears in appropriate circumstances. I can see two equally precise ways of entering the achievement, but I'll stick with the traditional version.
Puzzlement briefly over several of the answers, but that only added to the fun. Whatever the achievement actually was, and precisely where and when, it seems the official or accepted version at the time could have been expressed in six characters, so I'm not going to argue with that. Before my time, but nice to think of a simpler bygone age.
Add me to the consensus. The location is very familiar to me, oddly, so I'm more than happy.
Yawn.

Z-Cup, please.
It's heading your way again Alekhine. My vote goes for the enjoyment factor and some pleasant surprises at the end. Thank you Augeas.
Too much ambiguity for me as regards the six characters. A tad disappointingas a result. As I do submit, I hope there will be some due latitude...
Nothing to add, enjoyable and undemanding sums it up.
a lot easier than last weeks
Started late, still finished Friday. One of my most favourite things in the world ever, though not the one featured, but the one named for the creator - she's still alive! I think there are at least four ways of entering 6 characters.
Incidentally, the colour does have a specific munsell value, and in my opinion, nothing else will do!
As others have noted, a largely straightforward but enjoyable puzzle.

I hope nobody falls down on the achievement. Wikipedia is ambiguous (even contradictory) in this respect and there are certainly two sets of characters that could be used, though I imagine what's wanted is the historically appropriate ones. I think the puzzle would have been better without this bit, since there's plenty of thematic material in the grid. Failure to get it right would not indicate failure to understand an aspect of the puzzle, but merely failure to locate unambiguously the particular characters that the setter has in mind.
As for the highlighting, I shan't bother because I can see two entries that are relevant in different ways.
To add further coal into the boiler, perhaps a six-letter word (reasonably well defined by the title) could also be used as the "achievement" - although I will submit alphanumeric combo. Shame about this ambiguity but surely the editors will allow one of several alternatives (ancient or modern, with varying degrees of accuracy)...? Won't they?
Nice to have one I can finish, unlike the last two. But I too have my doubts about what to enter for the achievement. On balance I favour a rather imprecise entry.
Yes, a fast and easy ride. Thanks to Cruciverbalist for the gentle nudge that enabled us to complete, and admire the ingenuity of, 4246, albeit without submitting it, of course. Time now available both to tackle 4247 and watch the tennis and rugby.
Liked, and hadn't previously heard, the quote from Colin Dexter in the Times the other day to the effect that crosswords are the most civilised and elegant way of wasting time...

Also I see that Azed is one of the winners of Ghost Story.
