Hi all

There appears to be a problem with the electronic version of the magazine which has not appeared.

In the meantime I've copied the link to the more basic printout of this week's crossword and I've emailed about the online version.

Sorry the best I can do at the moment.

All the best

Thanks Daniel. Something to be working pro tem. I hope the usual version turns up as this one is clearly not easy to submit! As usual your efforts are above and beyond the call of duty.
Gentle stroll today. Now I can concentrate on my holiday which begins now!
Yes, an easy one. Nice when you've just got BACK from Holiday!

Hi

I've just heard from The Spectator that they no longer use Exact Editions which was an online replica of the magazine. They have swapped to an IPad App which I will download tonight and look at. I downloaded it on my phone a moment ago and unfortunately the crossword looks just like the one that is posted online.

I will check the IPad app when I get back to see if it is the same as the magazine version (fingers crossed) and will revert back this evening.

All the best

Hi Daniel

Many thanks for all the trouble you go to on our behalf. I hope it
doesn't get too technical for computer illiterates like myself.

Incidentally I didn't find the puzzle as easy as other solvers
& thought there was at least one alternative answer to an unclued light.
Well done to David Carpenter, Sutton Coldfield who is a runner up in the speccie AND a Listener winner this week! Do we know you under an alias??
Thanks for your efforts Daniel. I enjoyed this one, a stroll compared to this month's Genius.
No I didn't find it that easy - had to resort to Wiki. I don't see the wordplay for 22a - first 5 letters are OK but the last 3 ? - and isn't there a letter missing (the entries last one) from the wordplay for 15d?
15d: def. (ex.) film star; walking unfinished + lettter symbolizing round
Don't quite follow 22a, either
Thanks for that Maurice - I had the def'n as walking around!
...........and the joke in the other one has just occurred to me as I was dropping off for a nap: "art instructor" in biblical/Shakespearean English, of course, is (thou) teach-est !!! Now back to sleep........................
Thank you Daniel as always for all your efforts

Hi all

Unfortunately the Spectator's new online edition does not have the crossword in the same format as the magazine.

This means that the version I posted up today is the only version people can get online.

This means that I probably don't need to send it to the 74 of you anymore because it's just as easy for you to get to it as me.

It's a shame but we will no doubt keep the Thursday club going on here with comments/queries on the puzzles.

All the best

Hi Daniel

I fear this is a sign of the times. The days of free access to crosswords
without purchasing the paper or subscribing are coming to an end.
I am a subscriber to the Times Crossword Club which allows me to
download the weekly Listener & Mephisto crosswords. I have now been
told that I need to takeout a subscription to the Times On-line if I want
to print off the crosswords. They went on to warn me that
photocopying or sharing their crosswords is a breach of copyright.
Thanks for your Thursday e-mail & post and I don't think things will
be quite the same again.

Regards K
Hi DJA
Thanks for all the hard work you've done sending us the Speccie each week .
I echo K's sentiments ."Fings ain't what they used to be "
All the best to you and your family .
Shaney.
Thanks again, Daniel, for all the good work! So we'll have to make do in future with the mini version. I still find it fun, though!
I had no trouble getting the crossword printed off exact editions, interestingly.
Thanks, Daniel! Hope it's not too hot in the UK; it's 37C where I am.
