I think it is a mistake; they've given the answer. I put John and then realised that Kurt Weill is correct for 47d - the Bertolt Brecht clue, not a composer beginning with 'N'

Definitely agree. Thaw is the answer as is Weill to 47d. Poor editing from the Telegraph compiler.
