Hoping some clever clogs out there can help me with the last few clues of this crossword;

7ac Conduct a book circle (5) B-i--

13ac Norway follows Germany in moving more up-to-date (6) --d--- (not sure why, but could this be modern?)

17ac The new slave to the Russian leader carries the tray (6) s---e- (server?)

20ac The second show with striptease was a great success (3) --t (hit?)

6d Rock group "Genius in Torment" is all about love (7) ---e--s (Genesis?)

12d After the last lap disaster avoid the opening event (7) -----de

13d After the first minute a repaired chain finally broke the contraption (7) -----n- (machine?)

13a) yes - put N after an anagram of 'more' with D in the middle
17a) salver = anagram of 'slave' + R(ussian)

6d) igneous = anagram of 'genius' out side of O

13d) yes - m(inute) + anagram of 'chain' + (brok)e
12d prelude
20a) yes - s(econd) + (w)it(h) i.e. 'with' stripped of its outer letters

last two;

12ac -- letters are now -r-l-de.Obviously "prelude", but again, why?

20ac h-t is either hit or hot?

Still slightly baffled;

12d got that "elude" is to avoid, and "p" is the last letter of "lap" but where does the "r" come from?
12d After the last la(P) disaste(R) avoid (ELUDE)the opening event
