changed my mind twice but going for gentry

It could easily be either, presumably the l/r is not cross clued?
(wordplay) "for" (definition) implies GENTRY
Landed Gentry(Landed gently with r substituted for l) Submitted and accepted as correct.

Thanks to you all for your input. It was unfortunate the 11th letter (l or r for left or right) was a dead letter.I went for gentry without 100% conviction
change of side R (right) for L (left) in gently - becomes gentry
