I don't quite see what Dean Mayer is trying to achieve! I can't understand the clues even when I've got the answers. Please could anyone explain :-
25ac Country with men heading for rural area (Andorra)
41d First clue from Anax (one across)
36d Conductor, also theatre, will need volume kept in check (Andre Previn)

also = AND

volume kept in check = put V inside rein = REVIN
41d) is Anax the crossword setter? (don't have it to be able to check)
