I'm as stuck as you on most of them but 24a is IDO ( I do)
6 moan?
22d S(h)ort
7dn RAN(G) UP
Therefore 6ac may be MARE (nag) but not sure of the word play.
24ac is IDO, an alternative to Esperanto
....finally (sorry to upset a lot of people this early) but I like Dean Meyer! He makes you think and his anagrams are difficult but very satisfying when you solve them.
6a) mare ( change l in male to r )
7 d) run up ( take g from rung up (called) )
22d) short ( h in sort )
24a) Ido
Question Author
Thank you all but is it RAN UP or RUN UP? (RANG UP or RUNG UP)
22 down is short. 24 is Ido ( I do)
Happy New Year, everyone & thanks for your help over the year.

PS Thought you might like to know there's a short piece on Dean Mayer in the December Saga magazine. He looks young!! And quite human!!
22 D - 'SHORT' - kind -'sort', husband-'h'

Thank you mercedita for the information regarding that nice Mr. Mayer. Mind you everyone looks young to readers of The Saga magazine! I don't receive a copy since I cancelled my insurance with them - very expensive.
6a - MARE - man mr (a) change of direction (e) east
Not sure why people are mentioning Dean Mayer - this one is Tim Moorey's.
