Question Author
Sorry. Forgot to add that if 30A is GAMIN then 29D is ?G?S. making OWLS unlikely.
Hi simpleton- by Mark I think you mean mallyh.
I can't see the wordplay for owls.
Buds seems to meet the second part of the clue but I can't see teh birds connection.
Maybe flowers refers to rivers?
I can't see how gamin fits the clue

Thought 'Mark as Best Answer' was a strange user name!

GAMIN comes from instructions. " thirty clues comprise a definition part and a hidden consecutive jumble of the answers' letters including one extra letter". GAMIN is 'To take courage' and is part of 'design in amulet'. Hope this clarifies.
UNMAN is to take away courage
GAMIN is 'To take courage' - does it ?
I mean is it?
Well done Bibble.
I'm not aware that gamin means 'to take courage' so I think bibblebub's unman looks better.
That would allow BUDS although I can't see how that fits with birds, even allowing for the instructions
Anagram of iN AMUlet + extra letter n
Birds partially BDS.....?
Sorry, I'm 5 minutes behind after searching to find alternative meanings for gamin
Maybe , but i think the definition of buds is 'partially opened flowers'.
I find the instructions confusing though, so I maybe wrong about how BUDS can be arrived at
Question Author
'Unman' it is. Excellent. Thanks all!
