As usual, I have the answers but need help understanding some of them.

15 down. Ocean said to be in bishop's turf. Answer is sea. What the heck has this got to do with bishop's turf?

7 down. Seed can be distributed and surrounded. Answer is encased. Anagram of 'seed can'. Is 'distributed' another of these cryptic clue codes for anagram?

12 across. Tour, looking back, a shocking defeat. Answer is rout. Obviously an anagram - why 'looking back'?

5 across, picture clue. An amplifier, a globe with an arrow pointing to the Arctic and the letter 'z'. Clue is 'They're very current'. Answer 'amperes'. Self explanatory except how do we get the sound 'air' from the globe. (Appreciate you can't see the pictures).

15 it sounds like see - a diocese
Bishop's area of authority, a see. In the clue,'said to be', sounds like.
7 yes
12 reverse the word
15d.sea sounds like see is another term for diocese which is the province of a bishop.
7d.Yes
12a.Tour reversed.
Ocean is sea, Bishops turf is see, "said to be" means sounds like.

TURF, informal an area or sphere of activity regarded as someone’s personal territory:
he did not like poachers on his turf
pere = arctic + z
5A. This picture,an arrow pointing to the North of the world always represents the word AIR or AIRS

Question Author
but tour reversed is ruot, not rout - that's what confused me
The Z just indicates plural so it will be air (z) s
Looks like setters mistake.
It's confusing me now!
Question Author
thanks for confirming that, retrocop - that's something new i've learnt today - nothing to do with the arctic
