Hi all

Here it is.

I had to leave for work very early so I haven't even glanced at it.

Enjoy

Thank you once again, Daniel.
Half-way so far, no idea of theme!
Thanks as ever Daniel. I'm glad I don't have to leave for work
when it is still dark!

When I saw the name of the setter & read the preamble I knew we
would be challenged more than recently.

23d opened things up for me maurice.
Yes, more of a challenge today. Took me far longer than necessary to find what needed to be highlighted too.
Back again, finished (thank God): awesome theme, as the Yanks would say!
@Roslyn/Maurice: I have everything except the potential victim (9,7). Is this a proper noun and are the letters in consecutive across entries?
Got it: Not consecutive, not proper noun. A painful plod which might have been easier if I had had Chambers 2011 to hand.
Hi all.
I've completed everything except the highlighting and am now bemused. If I use the words given in the definition in BRB I can only get to highlighting in 14 across clues. Am Imissing something
Geoff
Geoff - first word of the highlighting ( 9 letters) is given by the initial letters of the 9 unclued rearranged. Then look at your list of ALL the unclued in order and you should be able to spot the 2nd word.
Yes Roslyn, I agree with the first word, which then uses 8 across entries.
The second word, beginning 'S' only uses 6 entries. The fourth letter seems to be my problem.
Geoff
Sorry, I meant 4th and 5th letters
Geoff
suspect
Ah! I see what you mean - I'll have another look at my grid!
Hi again Roslyn
I agree with the word but the only way I can fit it is with 'P' and 'E' in same entry and therefore only six entries, a total of fourteen.
Geoff
Yes I hadn't counted up until your post - perhaps someone can enlighten us??
Hi Roslyn
It seems too obvious to be wrong and the rubric suggests that words are from definition so there appears to be no alternative. I will wait to see if there are any other responses before submitting.
Geoff
Am I correct in thinking that we must highlight the 16 cells which we have selected to make the (9,7) words? The nine initial letters of the unclued lights merely confirm the 9 letter word.
Mathsman, I think that's what we're supposed to do but I, like the earlier poster, end up using only 14 across entries.
Thanks as ever Daniel.
I have solved this but my problem is letter 5 of the 'victim' to be highlighted. The fifth across clue i.e. 15ac does not have the required 'e'. The second word which others have been questioning has two letters from the fifteenth across clue and so one uses fifteen clues to get sixteen letters as per the preamble.
Sorry, that should have said that 14ac does not have the 'e' that I need here. Blame old eyes.
My letter 5 is an "O" which is in 15a?
