I think I must be getting really thick in my old age! I can see the answers but don't know where parts of the clues fit in.
3d Certainly not difficult to stop rowing The answer is obviously easy but where does rowing (which ever way you pronounce it) fit in?
5d Criticise fashionable fellow making meat dish Again obviously, the answer is roast chicken but I've never heard a fashionable man being called a chicken?? Peacock maybe...
Can anyone explain in words of one syllable please?

Nice one Jo, I was still trying to work out where the punctuation should be in the questions.
easy (also as easy-oar) means to stop rowing - defn 18 here http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/easy
easy = stop rowing (the boat)
