34a seems to have a letter missing! (Finnock)
How many letters in the answer to 53a?
Lorry/truck??
34a Finnac
How many letters in Juggernaut?
34a.Finnoc
Well done, LiK. That must be an alternative spelling.
. . . or Danny's spelling could be correct!
53a - could be artic - as in articulated lorry, but pls advise number of letters even if you don't know what any of them are
Chris, it's in Chambers as such :-)
If it's 6 letters, Chambers only shows the 'a' spelling
Finnac

Definitions
from The Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
n. The white trout, a variety of Salmo fario.
In several on line diictionaries as finnoc.
Multiple variations in the spelling to be found, but I'm pretty sure the Didymus in the Generalist will go for the Chambers 6 letter variation- finnac

Have just found the puzzle - if 48d is 'Haaf', then 53a is indeed looking like 'Artic', as suggested by puzzlemaniac above
