Is There A Device You Can Buy Which Is Used If Someone Close By Is Playing Loud Music?

It transmits a signal which is interferes with whatever is playing the music and it then produces a loud buzzing sound.
Is there such a thing or have I imagined it?

One can get things that sample the incoming sound and blast the exact opposite with it to cancel it out. Unsure how much they cost and can;t recall what they are called. Not sure about buzzing though.

You can buy a "white noise" machine - you put it under your pillow which is supposed to cancel out the noise of the tinnitus.

I am sure that many many moons ago we used to try and set our radio at a certain frequency so that it caused static to the neighbours radio. I can't remember the outcome.

This should have been in 'chatterbox' rather than crosswords. The question was prompted by another about noisy neighbours playing music at all hours of the night. I thought I half remembered reading about a device which caused anything like a TV, radio, or record player, playing music to emit a loud unattractive noise.

To make it make an noise it'd need to be a radio and you'd have to broadcast on the same frequency. Most likely illegal. The chances of getting it to emit noise when it's getting it's music source from something else, such as a CD, then you'd have to strike very lucky.

That said I vaguely recall such a story re people on the underground. Unsure if it was about personal stereo or mobiles though.
