Gaston's second visit to EV shores with a celebration of a seminal moment I really enjoyed. Credit to him too for ensuring that the various elements of the theme are in pretty much the correct positions relative to each other too. Just adds that lovely extra touch that makes a grid construction special. Presumably competition with last's week's date-specific puzzle meant that it got pushed back a week later than was ideal. Never mind. Thanks, Gaston.

Totally agree with you Jim360. Glad I made time fo this today. Managed to finally finish last week's as well earlier.
Brilliant! One of my favourite EVs for some time now. More please Gaston!
Nice puzzle from Gaston. A grid packed full of thematic material, some nice clues, and a lot easier than some recent EVs. Brought back some good memories of the thematic event - a nice way to spend a couple of hours on a very wet Sunday afternoon. Thanks to Gaston.
Enjoyable puzzle. I got distracted part way through, picked it up later and zoomed through it. Still have two perimeter words to sort out. Subject is not an interest so these may be a bit obscure.
Enjoyed the puzzle, but don't know enough about the detail of the seminal moment to see the significance of the four letter word that uses the 'x' of lynx - can't see it can be anything else though. Perhaps someone can reassure ....?

I don't think that LYNX appears anywhere in the grid... what's the clue number for that?
It's part of the unchecked letters of the perimeter you're given in the preamble.
Question Author
Oh, right. Well you have the right word then, and the layout of the location in question has its ???? for the participants in that corner.
Okay, thanks Jim. All done now, so time to ponder a few clues I'm still struggling with from last week, despite having got the quote early on.
