An enjoyable solve. Early start as children suffered early wakefulness and it was ' my turn.' I had no idea where this was going until got right to the end and reordered clue letters. Usually have a fair idea before get about half way through, either because of things appearing in grid or being able to read message as generated. I liked that kept motivation going right through to end without early PDM

Thank you very much Stick Insect

Yes I enjoyed this one and thought it was very entertaining as well as not too difficult. A clever endgame, thanks Stick Insect!
Yes, a less challenging work-out than of late, but none the worse for it. I only realised the theme at the end, and was pleased to find it's one of my favourites. Thank you to Stick Insect, who happily seems to be becoming an EV regular.
Although much easier than of late, I think the clever construction made it all the more enjoyable and it reminded me of some memorable performances.
Relatively easy cluing but a very satisfying endgame. No idea of theme until grid filled although 1 particular light should have given an indication.
Very enjoyable ... now onto the ironing!!!
Agree with all the above comments. Entertaining but an easier solve than of late so it gave me time for both some work and some gardening.
Hello All, after a long break,
An easy grid population! I will admit that it took me longer to type in the necessary letters to do an EXCEL "Sort and Filter" to reveal the thematic information than do the grid population and the REMAKE!
Having seen the picture of the pen on offer now will start sending entries in again! Apologies if I am shortening the odds of winning! Time for a preprandial Glenmorangie!
Good to see you back DocHH. Am just enjoying a post-prandial South African Red. It is that time of year again when re-marks are arriving thick and fast. I just hope none goes to appeal.
Novalis, I do not envy you your task of marking! I am still just doing my 12 days a year of Consultancy. To be honest it is a bit like asking the Client to lend me their watch so I can tell them the time! Quite lucrative, but when I indicated recently that I wished to completely retire they responded that they wanted to make it worth my while to continue. They may have to purchase a more acurate watch!
I have an Australian Red to wash down the roast beef, might manage an armagnac for a digestif! Where are the other N&Cers?
Hi DocHH. The marking and re-marking is actually not too bad. When schools go down the appeal road things become a little complicated and as Principal Examiner I have to become involved. My "part-time" pensioner's job can sometimes be 40-45 hours per week at least.
Hello and welcome back DocHH, there has been a dearth of N & Cing lately and I have been for too embarrassed to post as (as ever) I have floundered my way to not finishing the blessed things and all the posts are announcing completion, not a sign of a DC or light relief anywhere (with apologies to Christina......not apples, currently damsons!).
A nice puzzle, although I found putting the answers in alphabetical order a bit of a faff. It was nice to see the message appear so neatly, though. Usually, with other devices like extra words etc I first get a jumble of letters that don't make sense.
