1 have two answers that I am not sure of. Can somebody whether they are correct and why please

Thanks very much Sarumite scorpiojo and Mac. Had a feeling 28 was wrong as couldn't work out the 'gorse reference. Now blindingly obvious -doh!

23d Seems to be a favourite of the compiler. According to past answers on AB the same clue was used in May this year and in August 2012.
