Cannot get the last one for love or money - 2 down - certain elegant poems issued from his bishopric - C?R?E?T looks as if it might be CORBETT - have tried poets, bishops (factual and fictional) - Trollope to see if there was a diocese other than Barchester - am now going round the twist - can anyone come up with the soluction please?

Chambers Biographical Dictionary tells me that Richard Corbett's 'Certaine Elegant Poems' was published posthumously in 1647. To quote an AB observation on another Tls clue, "somewhat recherché"!

Wikipedia had him spelled with one T and I did not realise Chambers do a biographical dictionary - time to check the prices! Thanks a lot Frogman

Even in these web-enabled times, I reckon the Chambers Biographical Dictionary stands up as a first class reference work (I'm not on a commission, honest!) - the content is very skilfully 'distilled down'. It comes in h/b (ISBN 9780550106933) and p/b (ISBN 9780550106414) varieties...Santa's probably got the elves binding up some copies already...
