Wined past tense
treated with alcohol = WINED, as in 'wined and dined'
ent wined, as in wined and dined.
so definition is simply WOUND, the past participle of wind
have to presume it is entwines ans ent is hospital dept. and alcohol would then be ...wines

Thanks guys but I am still not sure where ENTWINED is defined within the clue. I always thought that one of the cardinal rules of a cryptic clue was that the answer needed to be defined, either by the first or last word of the clue.

So, how is ENTWINED a definition of either wound or alcohol ?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree here ?

AH ! just seen it !...silly billy ! Its wound as in cotton wound around a reel, rather than a wound, as in a cut finger !

Clever clue !
Wounds around, not hurt
Wound*

That Times setter must a very clever !
ENTWINED is a synonym for WOUND e.g. "the two cables are wound around each other" / "the two cables are entwined"
