I believe title & special instructions have been forgotten, & possibly the wrong grid & word lengths have been printed (anything is believable with the G.G., as we know). I have several solutions that would otherwise fit, & have asked the editor. Does anyone else have the same impression (if you're lucky enough to be able to download it at all, of course)???

Meanwhile the SI have been passed on to me, but I consider the whole thing even then just completely unfair --- and typical of Paul's methods: I had enough of his Saturday prize puzzle efforts long ago.................

Nevertheless finished, with one problem left: can anyone explain why "aft" should mean "possible result"? Short for aftereffect or aftermath? I don't recommend this puzzle to ANYONE who wishes to remain sane........................
The definition part of 2 down is "possible result of a sudden jerk" - relates to 20 across. The remaining wordplay is then "to the back" (think ships). Despite the mess up with the grid, I confess I've rather enjoyed it, but have ground to halt in the SE corner. Hints for 22 across would be welcome....
Belay my last pipe. The obvious and gigantic penny just dropped.
I have finished but have 3 minor problems. 2 unclued letters, one in 9ac and one in 21d and too many As in 25ac. All the rest seems to check out. Can anyone explain, please?
In 9ac "river" (4 letters) is the wordplay with the defn at 12ac
21d 3 letter word for stain (going up) and two letter archaic word for always
This puzzle has been a nightmare for me - not having a printer doesn't help.
After much suffering I believe that I'm down to my last clue - 10A. The letters are WH*T but neither can I identify the definition nor work out the word play. Any help at this late stage would be very much appreciated.
what is the clue for 10a?
I'm sorry dannyk13, the clue is - "The soup — is there more? (4)"

Unfortunately it will not help a great deal since the definition elements in the clues have been swapped around and provide the definition for another solution. The subsidiary wordplay in each clue is normal but does not include the first letter (W in this case). If that makes any sense to you, you have my greatest admiration.
10a answer is WHET - W being the group letter and het anagram of the (soup is the anagram indicator) Sorry i can't remember where the defn is now.
Much obliged Roslyn. I would never have thought of 'soup' as an anagram indicator, but quite a legitimate usage nevertheless.
