The clue on the other thread in Tilly's link was
"13a Picture of X1 X2 X3 with an arrow pointing to first X " and it looks as if it does relate to the "examination" clue.
I can't see how the picture leads to this answer though

I think it will be 'X1' which 1X (once) turned over

I can see it now- the arrow points to x1(once over) rather than x2 (twice over) or x3 (thrice over)
