I think MODULAR is the best answer for that clue (I'm not convinced moduled is an accepted word), and BAWL looks okay

I'm not sure Modules does fit - I felt that the discrete components are the modules. Something made up of modules is described as being modular

FF, I agree but if the e is correct it cannot be modular.If you look at it as modules are made up of discrete components then it does fit.(not a very explicit clue IMO)

I agree it's not clear. I just feel that if the discrete components are modules it just seems unnecessary to have the 'made up of' bit, as it's effectively saying "Modules are made up of modules".
Bawl would allow modular to fit.
Are we sure this isn't the Daily Record?
