I have the answer what I would like to understand is what articles mean
the articles are an, a, the.
Question Author
So how I understand it connecting words?
'A' and 'an' are known in grammar as indefinite articles and 'the' is the definite article. Hope that explains it for you. I'm similarly thrown by cricketing terms!
as DeliaK says, it's a grammatical term for those three words. Not every language has them.
Some languages, like Russian, do not have articles, either definite or indefinite so for example the word 'kniga' can mean book, a book or the book, depending on the context. This is one of the difficulties they have when learning English or other languages as it is an alien concept. Welsh has a definite article but not an indefinite one.

Because of childhood issues have not got the best grounding of the English language. I can be intelligent and very stupid at the same time. Doesn't bother me as such but I like to understand things clearer.
Latin also has no articles. Other languages have different forms of the article depending on the gender of the following noun and whether it is singular or plural. All very complicated!
