On 16d is the clue 'reverse' or reserve?
16d.Gorman?
21a.Mood
Question Author
it's reverse, must admit I looked twice! I think doom seems to be correct, could the author be Gordon?
Yes, doom will be right. I suppose there are quite a few names that would fit.
?O?D?N
And James Corden has written a book.

..Thor is a god
Do has award winning Carol Gorman
Sorry, i misread it- it's Mood so GorMan fits
//fiirst letter of 21a is fourth letter of 16d//
Yes, dannyk. I was distracted by maxidragon's comment "I think doom seems to be correct, could the author be Gordon?" but then saw the error of my ways
My comment was not for you FF
Me?
Sorry Jo, yes :-)
Ok :)
Sorry- I misled you scorpiojo
Pretty sure the answerto 16d is London, with 21a being doom. The "see" in the clues refers to Diocese to form the theme
The punctuation of 21a suggests to me that the definition is "imperative, perhaps" which leads to MOOD (imperative is a grammatical mood), and it's the judgement (doom) which is reversed.
But it could be that the setter was a little careless.
If there is a Diocese theme then you may well be right. If so then the clue is very ambiguous as it reads as though judgement (doom)is reversed
answers Bath (and) Wells, Winchester, London, Oxford, Lincoln all have the word "see" another clue in the grid which is an alternative meaning / example of. Agree that 21a is suspect but unlike Virgilius aka Brian Greer to produce a poor clue.
