Can't decide between GAMY, as suggested by Scorpiojo, which sounds right, and OAKY, which also seems right - strong flavoured and anag. of okay. Which should I choose?

Gam(A)y (red wine, less 'A', the best quality)

Oaky, I associate Gamy with Meat more than Wine
the definition part of the clue is strongly flavoured
Strongly flavoured = definition, i.e. Gamy

Mmmm...but OAKY wine is also strongly flavoured and okay suggests" not the best" to me.
Guess I'll have to sleep on it but thanks to all for your input.
Gamay is a red wine
Sorry, but I'm sticking with my answer & parse
Me too :)
'NOT the best' leads you to remove a letter.

There is no 'Sounds like' indicator for - Oaky/Okay
Question Author
(T)okay then. This thread has reminded me that the sun's gone over the yardarm so, cheers
