Cape
3d.Cape ( Cape Wrath is a headland)
14 Can only think of 'P-l-ot' ( as in to plot a misdemeanour = a fiddle) but could be very wide of the mark :-)

Thanks guys. Any ideas about 14ac?
14a.Glut -l(fifty) inside gut( string part of fiddle)?
Better than mine danny but can't see the definition
Nor me ,bad clue I think.
Prefer Plot, if only for the definition.

Bit can be used two ways, a little or a lot - so maybe pot=bit works?
I would go with that except for the two words "of a" before the word fiddle.
yes, agreed.
Afraid I'm stumped for a good parsing.

Thanks all. I'll go with plot and see if it's right in 2 weeks time!!
Hopefully HenHen will report back when the answer is published.
Fingers crossed
Two weeks! Blimey that's a long time - slow movers at the FT?
Monday's is a prize one, hence the wait.
Not sure this helps, but a previous crossword (Telegraph, I think) had this clue:
Excess shown by fifty caught in a bit of a fiddle (4)

Giving the answer 'glut'.

Wonder if the full clue was not printed in the FT?
That is possible and would justify my earlier post at 13..05.
That makes a lot more sense BigMac, thank you
did fiddle strings used to be made of gut?
