I do not yet have Brewer, but am getting a fair idea of the unclued lights from the title of the puzzle! (16a seems pretty clear!)

11a Mushroom in cooker and much of the basmati(6) AGARIC
40a God accepting obtuse writ(7): MITIMUS?

I can't see a case for mitimus yet
what letters do you have for 40a please?
I can't see such a word anyway- only mittimus
