I had clashes at the end of some words ....
eg 7a clue answer bash and 13a clue answer ail but 9d is EARTHS so need to change end of 7a and end of 13a to new words
Title is "polished off" so I assumed it has something to do with endings of words, but I can't see any statement, even though my grid is nearly full

I know it's not asked for, but does anyone see how the third word in the quotation is somehow reflected in the 14 letters changed "thematically" before entry? One would expect this last little detail to tally, surely, no???
