From the London Drinker crossword Dec/Jan 2015/16:
25 across: Caught behind, disheartened, walked off [6]
_ E_A_T
I’m pretty sure the answer is DEPART but why?
Many thanks

Trapped reversed minus the P (disheartened)
Wrong tense isn't it? Probably ends is Ct
Trapped (caught) - p(disheartened) reversed
Okay- trapped looks good- apart from the tense
I agree with FF, clearly answer is depart from explanations above but walked off is depart-ed
"...walk off" would have been a better clue I feel
From the London Drinker so maybe the setter was a bit tipsy.
And since when was 'behind' a reversal indicator?
For as long as cge has been a recognised shortening of carriage ;-)
^Apologies - you had to be there
I think I was there, prudie- I remember using CGE as an abbreviation for carriage in parsing something last week- I found it on a list of abbreviations somewhere.
