South East London suburb described in 1848 as " the prettiest of pretty suburbanites". Edith fits the down letters but is that really the answer? SWMBO says that it does not seem likely but cannot think of an alternative. Can anyone else? Sorry! I have e?i?h

But I still don't see any reference to the quotation about it being pretty! It certainly isn't now ( or a couple of years ago when SWMBO took me there. Heaven only knows why. She can't remember.) Have you seen the quotation anywhere?
