15A: Louisa May knocked block off Jersey Joe! (6). I have ASCOTS. But why?
23D: Roguish leader abandons demo. (4) I have ARCH (March - M) can't see why from the clue.

Once I read Louisa May Alcott I immeadiately got Jersey Joe Walcott and could then knock the block (head - W) off Walcott.
