I have a complete grid and I'm happy that everything is correct, and I also have 8 of the 10 misprints. Assuming that I have correctly identified the misprints I think I know what the second word might be but no ideas about the first word which is making me think I've gone wrong.

Is anybody else struggling with this or am I missing the blindingly obvious? After a fairly straightforward gridfill I thought the endgame would be easier - could be me though!!

Any nudges in the right direction would be much appreciated, thanks!

I have across 5,14,15
and down 5,6,12.

I suspect 9A and 28A may have misprints.
The word elderly seems suspect in 9A. But no misprint comes to mind.

I have the answer to 28A with fuel as the definition. But have not been able to parse it so there has to be a misprint somewhere.

The letters from 5A, 14A, 15A do not make a word jump out.
I am assuming that the second word begins at 6D and may be 4 letters.

Just worked out the parsing of 28A. abandoned is the anagram indicator.

About as far on as some of you.... from crossword forum........ misprints in across 5,14,15,22,28.....so possibly 2 5 letter words from the misprints? I have I G I T from the downs but I could be way out cos those misprints are hard to spot

3D has the misprint. Is vs. was will give you the letter.

Your 22a is wrong. Think of what to do with time as two word instruction.
you have to get the meaning of return.
Your other two are correct. 28a and 3d.

How clever is this puzzle, loved the endgame and could even work back then and check where the misprints actually came from!

Reasonable progress here. Grid populated and 6 out of the 7 pairs identified but struggling to find the last one. Is 11d changed? Also no idea at all about the word to write under the grid although I've got the synonyms. Clues would be appreciated.
Enjoying a little sunshine here but still extremely chilly.

Misprints occur when you type.
Synonym of first word (part of the title) synonym of second word.
11D is changed.

... and the part of the title is a punctuation mark rather than a word !
