last one is getting me!
52d Speaker's empty, turning up empty(4)
tee?

according to the instructions the ee are the double extra letters, and that fits with my solution of the rest of the puzzle.

If you haven't seen the instructions, you won't be able to help presumably, so don't worry!
Thanks in advance

Hi scorps, sorry only just saw your post - Turquoise - 'q(uarte)r' (back, in) 'toise' (old Fr. measure "about 2 miles") (+ UU)

Teem = empty....that's as far as I got :(
52d Teem (empty; pour out) - "M T" (speaker's "empty", up) (+ EE)
While you're here, Lik, will you parse turquoise please?
Question Author
wow, thanks. I am now finished. although I must admit that calling a widow a relic is a bit much!
:))
Question Author
I have turquoise too, but like you cannot fully parse!
Please give BA to Lik, clog2 :)
Relic is a variant of ...

Relict

3. Law A widow or widower.

thanks mamyalynne, so it is not as bad as we thought:)
Hi scorps, sorry only just saw your post -

Turquoise - 'q(uarte)r' (back, in) 'toise' (old Fr. measure "about 2 miles") (+ UU)
Thank you so much :)
Sorry, the measure is 2 metres, so now I've confused myself!

Am on the phone, will look again soon...
Typo? Miles instead of metres?
Sorry again, celebrating a utility company refund -

Yes, if the clue read "...about two metres..." then -

'q(uarte)r' (back) : 'toise' (old Fr. measure "about 2 metres", [is] out[side])

If that's not it, I don't care! :-)
LOL..it's miles ;o)
You don't think it's a typo Scorps?

Have you found a parse now, it's a stinker this one.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toise#Unit_of_length

So "...in France about two metres..." would work - "miles" can't as far as I can see...
Toise as a measurement predates the metric system - bur that doesn't help as it was still around a couple of yards or two metres
Sorry Mamya, wandered off. I think it's an error and should read 'metres' not miles, then Lik's parse fits perfectly. (I have no other ideas :(( )
Sorry but that was a horrible crossword.
One should feel satisfied after completing it instead of just plain irritated at not getting anywhere.
