Have completed most of it but now stuck with the two grey columns.

1. Do they make real words or only the across clues are real words?

2. Is 18a sled related when two letters are added?

3. Is 38a a body part when two letters are added? Or Temperature related?

I expect you have finished this by now hankir.........but if not.........you need to replace the letters from the grey column (4,4) with what she was turned into...(from the bible story). Use symbols from the periodic table Group 1

sorry hankir ....... last thread wasn't quite right.......you need to use symbols from Group 1 and Group 7 to make the salts which are needed to fill the grey cells

I have the same salt in 28, 31 and 33.

So out of 7 I have solved, 3 are same in column 1 and 5 are same in column 2.

It seems to me there is more than one answer that may fit. Or I am making a mistake.

I just noticed that I have not solved 23A. (My last one). I have ?A?E.

in 28 i have LiF
in 31 and 33 I have KI

Yes it does look like sometimes there may be more than one salt that will fit
as your Kiting would be ok for 28a? and my LiFting

It is interesting that no clear instruction is provided.
So Kiting and Lifting both fit.
I tried to see if the two shaded columns can each spell a word. That would decide what the salt should be.
But I doubt it is possible.
I guess we go with whatever works.
