Very sorry to hear that.
In fact the clue you referred to was 'Big, old, cross shielded cat', not 'shaded cat'
You would have no chance of getting the answer with 'shaded'!
A 'lion rampant' was a device (picture) painted on to the shields of some knights of old.
However, if I am making the clues too way out or wacky, I do need to know, so thank you for the feedback - it is most useful.
I shall try to make them a little less devious, although you won't see any changes for a week or two, because I do them quite a long time in advance.
I don't wish to drive you away from Pitcherwits, ff!
Kind regards,
CJR

Thanks for the feedback on the feedback, CJ Rebus.
Yes, i had slightly mis-remembered the clue but couldn't parse it when on the thread with the right clue. But i have now realised that these are not the normal cryptic clue with a definition and some wordplay- the pictures are crucial.
I don't really follow those 1a either (although the wording was slightly different on the other thread today as it omitted the word IT. I don;t see how the SO fits in.
I'm sure I'd get used to them though if I had the paper with the pictures and if I had time to study them instead of just dipping in and out between jobs.

Thank you Dodger666;
I do know that that is a problem sometimes, and it does depend a bit on the print quality of a particular batch of papers. Nevertheless, it is useful to have a reminder of this problem, and I will try to make sure that the font size is not too small.
Again, comments much appreciated.
Kind regards,
CJR
