Was there a picture clue then, Mac?
Breaks camp
Question Author
Thank you very much. Couldn,t see the picture clearly as I've just had a cataract op.
I can't parse it at all- is it a sounds like TENTS?
yes ff.
I've never even heard the term breaks camp. Is it a plural of break-camp?
sounds like so it won't be in tents.
Thanks. I've made a mental note to avoid Pitcherwits now as I just don't get them. I'm still puzzled by the last one I tried where the answer to 'Big, old cat, shaded cross' was RAMPANT
Hi ff,
Very sorry to hear that.
In fact the clue you referred to was 'Big, old, cross shielded cat', not 'shaded cat'
You would have no chance of getting the answer with 'shaded'!
A 'lion rampant' was a device (picture) painted on to the shields of some knights of old.
However, if I am making the clues too way out or wacky, I do need to know, so thank you for the feedback - it is most useful.
I shall try to make them a little less devious, although you won't see any changes for a week or two, because I do them quite a long time in advance.
I don't wish to drive you away from Pitcherwits, ff!

Kind regards,

CJR
CJ, Of late I have had to think a little harder with the picture clues.:-)
Thanks for the feedback on the feedback, CJ Rebus.
Yes, i had slightly mis-remembered the clue but couldn't parse it when on the thread with the right clue. But i have now realised that these are not the normal cryptic clue with a definition and some wordplay- the pictures are crucial.
I don't really follow those 1a either (although the wording was slightly different on the other thread today as it omitted the word IT. I don;t see how the SO fits in.
I'm sure I'd get used to them though if I had the paper with the pictures and if I had time to study them instead of just dipping in and out between jobs.
^ those 1a = this 1a
Thank you for your replies dk and ff.
Duly noted.
I'd be grateful too for anyfeedback on the Pitcherwits from Tuesday, 12th July onwards, which is when you should see the Puzzles being 'mellowed', let'say.
Good to communicate with you, and thank you again.

Kind regards,

CJR
But please don't "mellow" them too much, CJ - we like a bit of a challenge
Also noted, whitehill - I shall try to hit a level that challenges but also satisfies as many people as possible.
All feedback and useful criticism much welcomed.

Kind regards,

CJR
Sometimes I have a problem reading the small words printed in the pictures. At times they are blurred.

Thank you Dodger666;
I do know that that is a problem sometimes, and it does depend a bit on the print quality of a particular batch of papers. Nevertheless, it is useful to have a reminder of this problem, and I will try to make sure that the font size is not too small.
Again, comments much appreciated.

Kind regards,

CJR
