Can someone please explain the answer to the above. I know cadeau is the answer and it's french for gift but why irish rebel?

Jack Cade was an Irish rebel, but not sure about the "au"
I wonder if it could be connected to Jack Cade, English rebel of the 1400's, add the O' for Irish, Cadeau. Bit of a long shot.

plus 'au' - which is a very flexible little word with many meanings according to context - so perhaps used here as 'getting'?

Thanks for the responses all three of you. I found Jack Cade but the ref I found said he was born in Sussex not Ireland. I agree that "au" can be used for a host of meanings. Just another example of the rather weak and woolly clues we get in the RT these days.
I agree his birthplace is either unknown or in England on most reference sites, but happy with the link I gave.
