In Roman numerals that is MCM, initials of Millennium, Christ and Mother, perhaps?
About all I can see too JD.

Thanx to you both guess I wil run with 1900 thanx again.
Looks like Jackdaw was right with Roman numerals. M=Millennium, (C)hrist's (M)other initially. CMM. = Nineteen hundred, millennium year?
There's the rub; 1900 was a centennial not a millennium year. I wonder if the clue has been reproduced exactly as printed.
Without being unkind I often struggle to fully parse RTE clues - yes of course MCM = 1900 but as said it was not a millennium year.
You could say - Christ initially 'C' appears in 'MM' a Millennium year but then we don't have 'Mother'
