What is the clue giving the 'i' ?

Happy that ACTINON and SCHIZOS are both viable words. But both fit the grid and I can't see any relationship to the clue. ACTINON is an element from the periodic table so that may be the relationship with 'row' in the clue. But I was hoping for a more convincing proof or answer

Thanks all - it must be ECHELON
The across clue that gave me the letter I seems to have a problem.
"Oriental lady in baggies, handsome still" - gave GIESHA in the clue - but it should be spelt GEISHA

So ECHELON it must be

It has to be GEISHA and not GIESHA, so it should be ?C?E?O?
Making it impossible to be ACTINON even with the connection to "row" in the clue. ECHELON fits due to relationship with the whole "Level row type" clue
