Margo, are you sure 26D is 'solo'? I've got polo on the basis that 'cut' is 'lop' +o(old) gives 'polo'.
Taffy - sorry that should read POLO not solo x
Michael - crossed posts its that autocorrect thingy again. I had polo x
Couldn't it be polo cut up = lop o. However my problem is 24a (r?e?) "Assistants first to finish scheme" any help with this one gratefully received
