49 across.Clue is:Sweet little things utter fops I suspect.5,5 letters.The answer is petit fours.However anyone with a GCSE in French would know it is spelled petitS fours.I cannot believe that the Times setter and the crossword editor have made such a mistake! I am tempted to write a letter of complaint, but do not want to prejudice my chances of winning a prize.What shall I do?

I view it like I view Panini/Panino/Paninis - common usage comes into play. I have had restaurant menus that say 'Petit Fours'. I know it is technically incorrect, but it doesn't bother me very much. Chambers gives only 'Petit four' and doesn't mention that the plural would vary from the normal 'add an s'.
