I couldn't see it either, aelmpwm. No-one parsed it yesterday either. I can see it's some letters of the first few words in the clue but that isn't good enough. I don't get the 'less noisy' bit either, unless it's just that an owlet is smaller/quierter than an owl.
I did try anagarams of a few words and managed to get close to it by taking out NO HORNS, NO BLOWS and NO TROMBONES but was almost certain that was the wrong track

thanks ff, i'm glad it's not just me :-)

28 Across - Hooter blown some rendered less noisy (5) O????
Someone else gave pattern as O?L?T
Could it be 'lower' ? Blower rendered = lower? Less noisy?
I wondered about OWLER rather than owlet but someone else said it ended in T
But
But owler wouldn't work though if hooter were blower since owler is also the hooter
When i saw your name, Tilly, i wondered if you were going to come up with a quote from someone like Shakespeare- I'm sure he mentioned a hooter
Letters are definitely O?L?T
'owlet's wing'
'The fatal bellman.'

That'll do. :-)
Parsed as (bl)ow(n) + let(rendered)
anagram of b(LOW)n and qui(ET)er?
Clutching at straws now
Seen yours danny now. that must be it. (Of course hooter/hooters have other meanings)
So owlet is the hooter and is it less nosiy because it's a small owl?
Thanks for the explanation, Danny.
That would seem to be it, FF.
(Hoo)te(r) b(low)n ..some (indicating letter removal) rendered (anagrind). less noisy = definition.

That's my take on it, looking at the various parsings, not an impressive clue in my mind.
fozzy, could you explain how your parse arrives at Owlet?
Got my brackets base over apex Danny.
anagram " te low" from hooter blown.
Yes, i tried that parsing earlier but I can't see where the definition is- unless hooTEr is used twice- once to give the TE and once to support the definition (a less nosy hooter)
