I was puzzled because 24a says, 8 letters and the answers given (apologist) is 9 letters.
24a is 8 letters and the answer is airports
27 is apologist

Tilly, that's why I was so baffled. The letter count was given as 9, the answer was given as 9... and then you said '...has 9 letters'. I thought you'd re-read it at some point!
