Great puzzle but I'm stuck on the 2 Ks "it may shed light on bedding material business, after drill that is pupils' responsibility' (both 10 letters)
I am guessing second one could be "coursework' but can't parse it.
I haven't got the foggiest about the first one.
Any help please?

I assumed it was a single expression that was needed- hence controlled assessment fitted the pattern and possibly the definition /some of the clue (but I couldn't parse all of it).
danny- when we knew the second word was schoolwork and the first candlewick i couldn't recollect ever hearing the term candlewick schoolwork- hence my comment about never having heard of the term.
Thanks danny. It wasn't what candlewick is that I was querying- it was the term Candlewick Schoolwork. I now know the two solutions from one clue are not related.
This is one of those crosswords where we can't normally help unless we know all the instructions. I'd have stayed clear if I'd known the way this one worked.
