5D Bird found around rocky crag, lone duck (8,5)
Maybe some form of goose but there I have no idea. Any help most welcome.

Yes - barnacle goose - anagram of crag, lone and o, with base around. But how does BASE = BIRD?

Yes, Mamya - of course bird is the definition part of clue so should have said ‘found’. Suppose that it’s the verb ‘to found’ but still a bit of a stretch to make this a synonym of base. But thanks!
