Given that everyone (or so it seems) spends any ‘quiet moments of contemplation’ checking their phones and posting on AB (see other threads passim), are we witnessing the death of a valubale cultural icon?

Will we never see the like of “101 things to do with a Daily Telegraph” again?

I'm not so sure - although I'm an inandout type of person my OH is a reader. He has just bought this weekend a fun gift book for a family member titled "100 things to do while having a poo"
Not at all....in my little loo library I have......The Quotable Oscar Wilde.....Coffee with Shakespeare.....Irishology and Dead Lines by Greg Bear..... :-)
My aunt had a book and pen in her downstairs loo so people could jot down their musings or write a poem or whatever.
That may explain the origin of Love Island, LadyCG.
My OH takes a newspaper in saying, "I'm just going to the library."
Is that the old telephone directory one hangs from the nail ?
My Husband's toilet read was Auto Trader.
I take a crossword with me.

Have a book of Sudoku puzzles and a pen in my loo.
Douglas, quite! :-)
I hope so. It's a disgusting habit.
Schott's Original Miscellany is a great 'loo' read. Full of useful/useless information
I think a book of Patsy's jokes would be cheery........ :-)
Aww gness. I'm all a flush!.....
Schott's are excellent as is Winnie-the-Pooh's Little Book Of Wisdom.

"101 things to do with prunes" - that should help pass the ... time.
I used to have a bathroom with a bidet.

We used it as a magazine rack.
I'm just looking at 'The Captain's Log'....

But how did you wash your feet, hoppy? Presumably the bath was already full of coal?
Actually it wasn't just a magazine rack. It also held the spare toilet rolls.
